Some places of interest in Toledo, Spain

This former capital of Spain retains its glory as one of the most preferred places of visit amongst the tourists. The great river which crosses this city has blessed it with abundant vegetation; the tall mountains and the forest in and around the mountains have enhanced the natural vegetation. Added to this are many places of historical importance, museums and beautiful countryside. All these have brought more and more visitors to this great city. Let us visit some of the museums and other places of importance in Toledo:

Museums:

Spain has given to the world many artists and master craftsmen, painters, etc. El Greco was a great painter who has created many masterly works through his brush. The house where he lived is now converted into a museum in his name called the ’Museum of El Greco’. Works of El Greco along with those of other artists are displayed in this museum. Coming parallel to this is the museum of Santa Cruz. This museum is housed in a building which was built in the 16th century as a hospital. But this is now converted into a museum where tapestries and many other works of art and artifacts are displayed. Many artifacts recovered during archaeological excavations are displayed here.

The other famous museum is the museum of Foundation Duaque de Lerma. According to history this museum was built as per the orders of Cardinal Tavera in the fifteenth century. A church was also built and the statue of Tavera was installed under the dome of the church. In addition to this there are many other museums like the museum of Contemporary arts, Museum Parroquia de Santo Tome, etc. Undoubtedly, Toledo is a heaven for lovers of art and artifacts.

When you are in Toledo, you must never forget to relish the roast meats and stews. They are just mouthwatering and brilliantly tasty. Some of the most famous dishes of Toledo include a dish made from lamb with egg, saffron, tomato and of course with white wine. The other famous dish is made of roast lamb and roast pig. A dish called Judias con Perdiz made of bean and partridge stew is another popular dish.

There are many eateries serving these dishes. Of course these dishes with the famous Spanish Wine will certainly make your food very tasty. Finding an accommodation in Toledo is not difficult at all. There are many villas and hotels where luxurious stay can be enjoyed with minimum rentals.

Places of interest for tourists in Spain

Perhaps Spain is one of the countries most frequently visited by tourists. At the same time, planning the itinerary in Spain is quite difficult. It is difficult for only one reason; the country is very rich in places of interest for a tourist. One simple example is that there are more than 2500 monuments like churches and castles spread over entire Spain and each of these monuments has a great history. It has a long coastline spreading over 220 kilometers and it is dotted by many spectacular beaches. It has majestic looking mountains which just run along the coastline. There are hundreds of museums and innumerable parks and hundreds of islands which are fully equipped to make the tourist most comfortable. Choosing a place for a holiday under these circumstances is certainly difficult. But there are many tourist guides who will help the tourists in planning the itinerary.

What to see?

It is all your preferences that matter. If you just want to lie cozily on a beach with your family, there are plenty of locations for such stay. Of course wherever you want to stay, there are many villas and hotels to make your stay comfortable. Each of the places is very well connected by roads. Most of the places are connected by rail and air. Another interesting fact about the visit to Spain is that most of the places have monuments of historical importance, parks and museums and of course fully equipped villas.

Some of the places:

For example you want to visit Barcelona, which is one of the most developed provinces of Spain. It has many historical buildings like churches, castles and parks. These monuments were built in the 10th century and they are preserved even to this day. Some of the best parks are available in Barcelona. At the same time it is one of most industrialized provinces of Spain.

Madrid is also similar. It is the home for some of the most revered churches and hermitages. It is also a province which is fully industrialized and is the hub of commercial activities of Spain. These are some of the most visited places by every tourist.

Costa Blanca and Costa Brava are some of the most preferred beaches for a quiet stay in the midst of beautiful Mother Nature. Even here there are many historical monuments and parks, etc. So wherever you go, you have many places of interest to see, to enjoy and to understand. Perhaps Spain is the only country which offers so much for tourists.

Palaces in Spain

Spain has many palaces which were built many centuries ago. Perhaps Spain is the only country in entire Europe to have so many palaces of historical importance. Let us just visit some of the palaces.

Palace de los Reyes:

This palace is called Palacio de los Reyes do Navarra in Spanish language. The other name by which it is called is Palacio de los Deques de Granada de Ega. This is one of the most important buildings of historical importance. The palace is located in the city of Estella, Spain. The building built in Romanesque architecture was the place where the king and other royal family of Navarre lived. According to historians, the royal family lived in the palace from 12th century to 15th century. It would also mean that the palace was built in the 12th century. Because of the age of the building, a part of the palace had caved in and it was rebuilt in the year 1991. This rectangular shaped building was extended with additional floors during the 16th century. The tower of the palace has three floors. Although some portion of the walls has lost its charm due to the age of the building, some other portions are preserved using some of the modern technologies. Apart from this, the palace is a huge structure and the exterior of the palace presents an impeccable beauty. A portion of the palace was being used by the kings as a prison. Now the palace is being used as a building for the local municipality to function.

Valladolid Royal Palace:

This palace located in the city of Valladolid, Spain is another huge building which is believed to have been built by the Duke of Lema. It is said that the construction of the palace started in the year 1534 and was completed in the year 1600. Interestingly, the Duke of Lema sold the palace to Spanish king, King Phillip III.  It was actually King Phillip III who converted the entire place into a Royal Palace.  This beautiful structure has been luxuriously decorated with most precious works of sculpture and other artifacts. The walls are decorated and the entire palace resembles heaven. Many parts of the palace were rebuilt because it was one the oldest buildings of the Lema. The palace has a beautiful Royal garden. The palace is most ideally located in the heart of the city. Normally no visitor misses the palaces in Spain and more so the Valladolid Royal Palace.

Places of interest in Spain – Caceres

Spain is a country rich in many heritage buildings. In fact Spain is one of the countries which have the highest number of World heritage buildings as declared by UNESCO. Another interesting fact is that these buildings have been maintained perfectly well. It is not only the buildings; even the places surrounding them are maintained in perfect order.

Caceres is one such city in the province of Extremadura which has great historical importance. This city has a history dating prior to Romans. Today this is one of the very well planned cities of Spain. Even in the midst of this modernity, the heritage buildings, towers, churches have been well retained in splendor and are in fact attractions for tourists.

Let us just take a tour of the city. We start our tour with a visit to the fort. Interestingly this fort has thirty towers. Out of these thirty towers, twelve are believed to have been built in the 18th century by Churriguera. The towers are built with immaculate planning. It takes considerable time to go round all these thirty towers but some of the important towers should be visited.

Our next visit is to the Episcopal Palace which is built in traditional Gothic and renaissance architecture. This beautiful building has been attracting a large number of visitors. The palace of interest is the Gothic Mayoralgo Palace. The beauty of the palace is enhanced by the flagstone streets, La Plata tower, El Socorro Archl and such other towers. Many other historic buildings located just near the palace have actually beautified the palace.

The House of Monkeys called the Casa del mono has many ancient painting works. There are also works of sculpture and religions. The interesting feature of this museum is that the monuments are hidden inside the wall. In fact the sculpture works displayed in Spain have no parallel. Popular works of sculpture also adorn this museum.
